Why was the Great Wall of China built?

The great Wall of China was considered as the largest man-made structure at the time of it's completion in the 17th century. The great Wall of China spans 5,500 i.e 8,850 km.


 It spreads across Northern China, from the Korean border west into the Gobi desert. The great Wall of China was actually a series of small walls. These walls were actually built by Chinese warlords in the seventh century B.c to defend their individual lands. 



As  China became a United Empire ,these walls were joined and fortified over the next 2,000 years to repel enemies, particularly the Mongolian and the Manchu armies. The great Wall of China was built from countless bricks and stones and guarded by large number of watch towers.



 The great Wall of China is considered as an engineering marvel of the ancient world. The great Wall of China is one among the seven wonders of the world.
